The Day Before

Our permanency in Door County is about to hit a whole new level tomorrow. I start my new position as the Northern Door YMCA's Building Maintenance Coordinator. I will have hours from 5pm-1am which will work nicely around my wife's teaching schedule. I will be a stay at home father for my twin three year olds. I expect plenty of adventure and when I am scrubbing toilets I will hopefully be thinking about all the crazy things I get to do with my boys. If I am being honest cleaning bathrooms and breathing chemical gases as I operate the Y's pool are not going to be my major achievements in life. Making time for my family and supporting our dreams and goals will be. I had an opportunity to work for a local radio station. I passed it by largely for the next few years as my boys are not old enough for school. My long term goal is to start my own business, so really any job that seemed better than what I will be doing can wait. I have a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services with emphases in Resource Management and Leisure Program Planning and Management. Therefore working at a major recreational organization like the YMCA is truly a great fit for my skillset and abilities. I have worked for the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Park Ranger among other job descriptions in a seasonal capacity. Working for Door County Land Trust, Peninsula State Park, Whitefish Sand Dunes State Park, Newport State Park, or The Ridges Nature Sanctuary would be exciting and I will keep my eyes open and potentially volunteer to get my foot in the door. I am grateful for my new job and I believe it is a blessing that will open up other opportunities and bring stability to my family. There is plenty of lemonade to drink while I am doing dirty work.
