Door County, Wisconsin

They say 2 million folks visit Door County, Wisconsin every year.  The big draw to the area can easily be attributed to art, food, scenery, music, theater, and more. The fact is there are millions of people within a 5-6 hour drive. That makes Door County a great get away location for many seeking to escape for a short while.

I am a easy going guy with a easy going family, so for our lodging I am very happy camping at one of the local State parks.  With a State Park pass it cost 20 bucks a night to camp in a non- electric site.

Here are the links for the four State parks starting at Sturgeon Bay and making your way north to Washington Island.

Potawatomi: near Sturgeon Bay

Peninsula: near Fish Creek

Newport: near Ellison Bay and Gills Rock

Rock Island: near Washington Island

I can highly recommend Peninsula State Park. I have camped here at least 20 nights and they have everything you could ask for from nice hot showers to scenery. There are high quality theater productions at the Northern Sky Theater located close to Nicolett Bay campground. You will have to wait until the 2017 season to see a show.

If you need to get a cup of coffee in the morning, and you didnt come with all your camping supplies and food, I can recommend a few spots a bike, car, or kayak ride away.

#2 Blue Horse Cafe http://www.bluehorsecafe.com/
#3 Craic Coffee http://www.craiccoffee.com/

There are a lot of other places around for a morning bite to eat, but these are the places we chose in 2016. They have somewhat different price points and offerings. Craic Coffee has a mean Door County cherry granola. If you have starved yourself on food from your cooler for a few days and didn't bring eggs, Julie's Park Cafe will save you from your hunger pains ad will feed a young family for 4 for 40 bucks. Blue Horse Cafe will kick mornings butt with their Chuck Noris espresso.
